Pregnancy Testing & Options
Counseling
Our pregnancy tests are extremely accurate and can detect a
pregnancy very early. If your test is negative, we can discuss
various birth control methods with you. If your test is positive,
we will provide information on all of your options and can give
you information on prenatal care, adoption or abortion.
Non-Surgical (Medical) Abortion
If you are less than 8 weeks pregnant, you may be eligible
for a medical abortion. This is a safe and effective method of
ending a pregnancy using a combination of medications: Mifepristone
(formerly known as RU-486) and Misoprostol. You should speak
with our clinicians to determine if this is a good option for
you.
Surgical Abortion
If you are up to 13.6 weeks pregnant, you may choose
to have a surgical abortion. This process uses a vacuum aspiration
technique and will involve a local anesthetic to better assist
you during the procedure. You should speak with our clinicians
for more detailed information about this option.
Follow-Up Exam
You will be scheduled for a follow-up exam approximately two
to three weeks after your procedure. It is extremely important
that you keep this appointment as our clinicians will check in
on your comfort level and review the birth control method you
choose to prevent future unintended pregnancies.
Have an Appointment?
What to Bring:
- Your photo ID (you will not be seen without photo ID)
- Photo ID for anyone coming with you, if you choose to bring someone
- Your insurance card, if you have already arranged to use health
insurance. Contact the Health Center to make these arrangements
at 610.692.1770.
- Payment. We do not accept cash for abortion procedures. You may
pay by check, credit card or money order.
What to expect:
- Escorts: PPCC volunteers will be outside the building to greet
you, help you park, and walk you into the building. They are there
to help you and distract you from the annoyance of our protestors.
- Protestors: when you arrive, there may be protestors outside
the building. They are there to make you feel uncomfortable; the
best thing to do is ignore them completely. Please do not speak
to them or take any material they offer you. Please ask the person
with you to do the same. Answering the protestors back only makes
them behave more inappropriately.
- Time: you will be at our health center for several hours the
day of your procedure. It is important that you allow yourself
time to relax and rest before leaving. If you bring someone with
you, please let them know in advance that they may be waiting several
hours.
- Care and compassion: we are professional, caring women who will
do everything possible to make you comfortable. Please do not hesitate
to ask questions before your appointment or during. We are here
for you.
Fees:
- Surgical Abortion (up to 11 weeks) - $400
- Surgical Abortion (11 – 13.6 weeks) - $450
- Medical Abortion (up to 8 weeks) - $400
Some insurance companies cover the abortion procedure. To see if
your insurance company covers medical or surgical abortion, please
call our Health Center at 610-692-1770.
If you choose to use your health insurance, you must inform the
Health Center staff before the day of your procedure. If you do not,
you will not be permitted to use your health insurance and will have
to pay for your procedure in full. It is important that you bring
you insurance card with you on the day of your procedure.
PPCC is not permitted to offer abortion procedures on a sliding
fee scale. Everyone must pay for their procedure in full or using
their insurance, if appropriate.
For safety reasons, we do not accept cash for abortion procedures.
You may pay using check, credit card or money order the day of your
appointment. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Don't let the cost of an abortion make your decision for you.
If you are getting an abortion and need help paying for the procedure
please talk to us, financial assistance may be available to help
you.
Women who qualify may receive some financial assistance for their
visit. When you schedule your appointment you will be offered the
chance to find out if this assistance is available for you.
Women shouldn’t have to postpone or even forgo an abortion
because of lack of funds.
Informed Consent
Pennsylvania requires any woman seeking an abortion to receive
information about the abortion procedure at least 24 hours before
the procedure is performed. This information is known as Informed
Consent. As required by law, a licensed physician will provide this
information to you within the required time period, answer any and
all questions you may have, and offer support.
Minors
Young women under the age of 18 are required to notify a parent
or guardian of their decision to have an abortion. This is required
by the state of Pennsylvania, not PPCC. For those who can not get
a parent’s consent and need assistance, a volunteer attorney
can help you through a judicial bypass process. For more
information, contact us at ppchestercty.pa@ppccpa.org or
